National Magic Week was celebrated in Denver because of determined “Mayor-nudging”
by our Vice President, Chris Manos, who enticed Denver’s Mayor John Hickenlooper
into signing an official proclamation (as well as the fact that Halloween happened
the very same week as our November 3 Public Show: MAGIC -- Beyond Belief! II.)
This is the second consecutive year that we have sold-out the Lakewood Cultural
Center – mostly because of concentrated efforts by President Rich Nakata, Producer
Lindsay Smith and Publicist, Gloria Shanstrom
At precisely 7:00 p.m., Master of Ceremonies, Rich Nakata welcomed the packed
house with a commercial for hiring the performers listed in the beautifully
produced program. Rich reportedly said, “Cool” and “Give-it-up-for…..” 37
times during the show (Our President is fun to kid-with!).
Lead-off act was Keir Mathur Royale, who immediately vanished the upper half
of his body and then launched a three envelope discovery effect. Assisted by
Anikka, Keir issued an invitation to audience member, Victoria, who ended her
illustrious stage career peppered with hilarious enjoyment by discovering the
missing card on the chair which she had previously occupied. Keir then amazed
the audience with the classic, Mis-Made Lady illusion augmented with Keir’s
creative presentation approach.
MC Rich then presented a clever and well-received Bill in Lemon routine.
Sharon Nuanes, former Ring #131 President as well as “Mrs. Colorado” then dazzled
the audience with a beautifully choreographed series of events – an appearing cane,
color-filled Blendo, liquids from a bottle that became flowers, hankies bursting
from balloons, 20th Century Silk, and a final spinning streamer of vivid colors
produced from a snazzy Crystal Cylinder. She is a talented Lady of Magic.
Noah Kloor, our 16 year old wizard baked a huge cake fom ingredients that included
rice bowls, eggs, salt and everything else close-by while battling a color-changing
wand.
Professor Higgins (Dick Bowman) wowed everyone with his “SCAM” Supreme College of
Amazing Magic – at $69.95 – with scholarship options – vanished a champagne glass,
delighted us with frequent cut rope events which ended with total restorations.
He terrified everyone with threats of throwing a bowling ball into the audience.
(And eventually sent a balloon replica flying) and finished strong with a
prediction of the price of macaroni – family size.
John T. Sheets (our Las Vegas Quality Performer) presented flaming torches, bird
cages, incredible ribbon displays, production of a live parrot, vanishing cage
filled with doves being instantly replaced with the appearance of Corrine – then
ropes, knots, instant restorations and finally the re-appearance of a canary
inside an orange, a lemon and an egg. They ended with a choreographed “Find
the Lady” that both surprised and delighted the audience. John is our
Professional Illusionist.
Brief break – and then:
Steven McHaywire Cody attacks the audience with surprise and delight and
volume turned to blast. He transformed the younger members of the audience
into gleeful laughers and while they watched, he involved specific audience
members with cards, ball juggling, machete knife handling, young people helpers
and eventual bowling ball juggling – catching a bowling ball on his forehead.
Steve is a wild man who certainly keeps an entire audience awake and aware with fun.
Mark Strivings is the Master Mentalist who utilizes the entire stage while
involving the total audience with the suggested possibilities of “coincidence
or genuine thought prediction”! Mark is capable of following “McHaywire” and
totally changing the atmosphere into serious consideration of the powers of the
human mind and all that can be achieved in focused expectation. Mark makes
Mentalism a sensational audience event.
John T. Sheets and Corrine re-appeared with an amazing “Chop the Young Lady
in Half” illusion which was presented with astounding effectiveness.
